abstract

background : due to the importance of the metal zinc as an essential biological element with known toxic properties, and considering the widespread secondary infections caused by pseudomonas aeruginosa strains with resistance to antibiotics and disinfectants, the present study aimed at exploring the antimicrobial properties of the metal zinc in both clinical and environmental multiple drug resistant (mdr) strains of p. aeruginosa. mdr in p. aeruginosa is defined as the resistance to several antibiotics. methods : bacterial strains were cultured in cetrimide agar medium at 37 °c for 48 h. strains were identified both morphologically and biochemically. mic values of the metal zinc were reported using the broth microdilution method. results : a total of 84 strains were isolated and identified. mic values for sensitive and mdr strains were reported at 20 and 130 ppm, respectively. conclusions : it was concluded that the metal zinc at concentrations greater than 130 ppmwill have an antimicrobial effect on all sensitive and mdr strains of p. aeruginosa.

Antimicrobial Effect of Multilayered Carbon Nanotubes on Multi-Drug-Resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is the primary cause of infection with impaired defense mechanisms. P. aeruginosa commonly causes nosocomial infections and is the most common pathogen isolated from patients hospitalized for longer than 1 week. We examined the antimicrobial effect of multilayered carbon nanotubes on multi-drug-resistant. Materials and methods: In this research, 20 clinical i...

Antimicrobial Resistance Profile of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Strains

Abstract Background and Objectives: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is the most common organism, which is separated from the burn infections.  Due to increased antibiotic resistance, there are many problems to deal with the infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This study aimed to determine the resistance to antibiotics against clinical isolates of Pseudomonas using phenotype me...

Colistin, an option for treatment of multiple drug resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Introduction: Multi-drug resistant (MDR) P. aeruginosa is constantly increasing and causing severe issues in combatting widely spread health problems. The aim of this study was to assess colistin susceptibility in MDR P. aeruginosa isolates obtained from different infection sites. Methods: Ninety clinical isolates of P. aeruginosa were collected from different hospitals of the Tabriz Univer...

Synergistic Effect of Silver Nanoparticles and Streptomycin Antibiotic on the MexX Gene Expression of Pump Efflux System in Drug-Resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa Strains

Introduction: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most important infectious agents in humans, which is difficult to control in hospitals due to its resistance to various antibiotics. Efflux pump systems play an important role in the drug resistance of this bacterium to a variety of antibiotics. This study aimed to determine the antimicrobial synergistic effect of silver nanoparticles and the a...
